Sound
I have researched and gathered many examples of sound that is commonly used in films such as non-diagetic, dramatic music, slang, dialogue and contrapuntal sound.
How does sound create meaning?
a films sound or audio track has an effect on how it communicates meaning to an audience and creates the filmic world. it creates mood and atmosphere, aids our interpretation of characters and action, and links together sequences and moments.
Non-diagetic sound - a sound that is out of shot, for example, a voice over, romantic mood music.
For non-diagetic sound, I filmed the field on a sunny day with background music. you couldn't visually see the music being played but you could hear it which set the atmosphere of the image that was shown.
Colloquialism- an informal expression this is more often used in casual conversation than in formal speech or writing (slang). I filmed someone using 'slang' which was exaggerated but is a clear example of the ways colloquialism is used within speech.
Contrapuntal sounds- sound or music that seems strange in comparison to the scene we are seeing. as an example of contrapuntal sounds, I filmed the field on a sunny day and added rain sounds in the background to show the contrast. the visuals of the sunny day don't match the rain sounds which shows the strange comparison.
Colloquialism- an informal expression this is more often used in casual conversation than in formal speech or writing (slang). I filmed someone using 'slang' which was exaggerated but is a clear example of the ways colloquialism is used within speech.
Accent - the way in which the inhabitants of a particular region speak. I have found an example of accents and I filmed someone speaking where they have a Canadian accent.
